2/25/2024 0 Comments Enuresis deep sleep disorderThis substance will make the kidneys produce more urine during the night. Sleep walking or obstructive sleep apnea can make the heart produce atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). Caffeinated and carbonated drinks may also cause the kidneys to produce more urine. If the brain doesn’t produce enough of this hormone or if the kidney stops responding to it, the child will either have to wake up to go to the toilet or wet the bed. This is normally controlled by the brain that produces a hormone called antidiuretic hormone (ADH) which slows down the urine production. Some children’s kidneys produce too much urine during the night. This condition makes the child wet the bed while sleeping. Some children have bladders that can only hold a smaller amount of urine. This brain-bladder-control will develop over time, or speed up with treatment. So instead of waking up, the child’s pelvic floor muscle relaxes and empties while the child is asleep. Deep sleep affects the way the bladder communicates with the brain. Have you ever heard the phrase “my child is a deep sleeper”? Well, actually this is true in many cases. Slow development of brain-bladder-control If both parents suffered from bedwetting as kids, the chance of that child suffering from the problem will be 75%*.Ī child without any family history of bedwetting only has a 15%* chance of developing problems.īedwetting is more common among boys than girls*. 50%* of the children that suffer from bedwetting, have a parent that also struggled with bedwetting as a child. Family History Parasomnia Questionnaire Sleep disordered breathing Sleep disturbance scale for children Sleep enuresis.Ĭopyright © 2015 European Paediatric Neurology Society. The novel finding of this study is that we found a decreased incidence of DIMS that is consistent with the parental perception of a more deep sleep and a high arousal threshold in SE. No differences were found for the DOES and SHY subscales.Įnuretic children showed a high comorbidity with other sleep disturbances like sleep disordered breathing and parasomnias. Children with renal and neurological problems were excluded from both groups.Įnuretics scored higher in several of the subscales (SBD, DOA, SWTD) and also in the total scale scores while scored low in the DIMS subscale. ![]() The Scale is grouped into six subscales: Disorders in Initiating and Maintaining Sleep (DIMS), Sleep Breathing Disorders (SBD), Disorders of Arousal (DA), Sleep-Wake Transition Disorders (SWTD), Disorders Of Excessive Somnolence (DOES), and Nocturnal Hyperhidrosis (SHY). ![]() The aim of this study was to analyze the presence of sleep disturbances in children with SE through the use of Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (SDSC) compared to normal children matched for age and sex.Ī questionnaire evaluation was performed in 76 enuretic and 112 normal children through the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (SDSC) validated for Portuguese language. Several sleep disorders have been described in association with SE like parasomnias and sleep apnea. ![]() It has been associated with bladder hyperactivity, excessive urine production and deeper sleep. Sleep enuresis (SE) is the second most common sleep complaint in childhood.
